Course objectives | The aim of this course is to provide the chemical knowledges of pharmacological therapy to treat different pathologies, the chemical and structural requirements of the interactions between drugs and the main biological targets (receptor proteins and enzymes), as well as the basic knowledges of the main classes of drugs together with their structure |
Prerequisites | Knowledges and skills furnished by the course of Medicinal and Toxicological Chemistry I |
Teaching methods | The course will consist of 96 hours of lectures by the professor that will explain all the mechanism of drug actions, their structures, the structure-activity relationships and the molecular bases for the pharmacological and toxicological activities of drugs. |
Evaluation methods | During the course of the course, two written tests are held in itinere lasting 180 minutes each, which will focus on the topics covered up to the date of the test itself. The tests will be open-ended and aimed at verifying the knowledge acquired by the student regarding the principles of pharmacokinetics, structure-activity relationships, mechanism of action, and synthetic procedures of the described drugs. The passing of these tests exempts the student from the written test during the dates indicated in the exam timetable. To pass the test in progress, the student must receive a grade of at least 18/30. The final vote will be calculated by averaging the individual votes received by the student on the two tests in itinere and on a brief oral interview to be held during the dates indicated in the exam timetable. In any case, the student who passes the two in itinere tests will have to seat for the oral interview within June of the next academic year. |
