The Master’s Degree course in Pharmacy combines chemical, biological, pharmaceutical, technological, pharmacological and toxicological sciences with the practice of pharmacy. Graduates will be trained to understand the complexities of the multidisciplinary process from its structural design to the production and monitoring of a drug, adhering to the requirements of the professional regulatory body, and according to the standards set in the pharmacopoeias.
The five-year training course has been redesigned to explore metabolic disease and healthcare and gain knowledge in the food sciences, food chemistry and nutraceutical products
Educational objectives
The five-year single cycle Master’s Degree in Pharmacy, in compliance with European directives will provide the student with the scientific knowledge in relation to the practice of pharmacy, on completion of the professional qualification in accordance with the European Community Directive 2013/55/CE. The Pharmacist works in various healthcare settings from pharmacies and hospitals to industries and healthcare products (medical, cosmetic, dietetic, herbal as well as diagnostic appliances and clinical devices). The program will provide the student with the skills to liaise with patients, physicians, and the public health system (Pharmaceutical Care). As such, they will be able to monitor drug procedures, administer therapy and learn how to guide patients in appropriate drug usage. The pharmacist is a healthcare professional with a wide multidisciplinary scientific and technical expertise in Chemistry, Biology, Medicine, Pharmacology, Toxicology, Law, Professional ethics, Hygienics. The pharmacist will use his or her knowledge to consolidate the goals set by the National Health Service (Servizio Sanitario Nazionale) to address community needs. The Master’s Degree in Pharmacy program will prepare students on :
- The properties of natural, synthetic, and biotechnological drugs
- How drugs are manufactured, the development of drug substances and the regulations of the manufacturing process
- Pharmaceutical technologies and the physical, chemical, biological and microbiological testing of medicinal products
- How drugs exert their therapeutic effects, their metabolism and potential toxicity, and notions on responsible drug use
- The ability to critically evaluate scientific data to inform the patient on responsible drug use and potential harmful effects
- The laws and regulations that govern medications and the practice of pharmacy
The program also aims to provide students with:
- A solid foundation in basic sciences (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Medicine) to develop scientific problem-solving skills
- The ability to develop and apply protocols in quality control of drugs, bio-drugs, and healthcare products
- A thorough understanding of the different types of pharmaceutical formulations
- The ability to apply the acquired scientific and technical knowledge to the preparation and the control of pharmaceutical formulations
- The ability to apply the acquired scientific knowledge, to effectively convey and communicate scientific information regarding medication and healthcare to the community
- A strong scientific background to work in various healthcare sectors which involve the processes of drug development, medical devices, dietary products, nutritional supplements, cosmetics, and phytotherapy
- A clear understanding of the regulatory guidelines related to the marketing requirements of raw materials, drugs and healthcare products
- A solid foundation in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology, associated with notions of pharmaco-economics, pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacovigilance, and legislation. This comprehensive expertise will provide students with the skills to assess safety, quality, and efficacy requirements of healthcare products
- A sound understanding of pharmacological, medical, and sanitary notions to properly treat diseases and promote well-being
- The necessary notions and learning tools to apply to a specialization school or a Ph.D. program
- The required knowledge to work in the National Health Service (Servizio Sanitario Nazionale) pharmacy practice
- A high degree of proficiency in oral and written English
Job opportunities
The vocational nature of the Master’s Degree in Pharmacy enables the graduate to work as a pharmacist (European Directive 2013/55/CE) in private or hospital pharmacies, in the local health authority (Italian ASL), and in the pharmaceutical industry. Admission requirements
Students need to meet the following requirement for admission to the single-cycle Master's Degree Course in Pharmacy:
Higher education qualification – High school diploma considered suitable for direct entry and acknowledged as an equivalent qualification for entry to an Italian university. Notions of General knowledge , Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and the English language are required, according to international enrolment eligibility for post secondary higher education set in the Italian Ministry of Education.

Course Tutors
Tutoring provides the students with assistance and advice on study organization and examinations and the choice of study plan for their final examination. It aids first-year students in the transition phase of high school to university. Tutors, however are not responsible for any difficulties encountered during individual lessons which will be discussed directly with course instructors.
